This evening, I came back home late after school as usual. After seating myself in my room and turning on my computer, I came across a Post-it note(便利贴)stuck to my computer. It read, "Don't turn on your PC. You stayed up doing your homework until 12 o'clock last night. Maybe you would have the time if you stopped coming home so late.一Mom" I threw the note into the wastebasket. "Why do they care?" I thought. "They're never here anywhere."
Right after high school started, my parents and I hardly saw each other. With all their business trips, they asked the neighbours to watch over me. Of course, the neighbours didn't do such a great job, as they had their own kids to worry about. They usually checked when I came home just by looking out of their windows. The only means of communication between my parents and me was through Post-it notes.
I really hate coming home to find the house completely empty. I would come home from school to be welcomed by no one, and to talk to no one. That's why I started joining more clubs and staying at school after school more often. I didn't want to feel so lonely.
However, though I have many friends at school, I know that nobody could take the place of my parents. I wish that they would be there, at home, waiting for me to come back from school. There are too many things my parents don't understand about me. I want them to understand everything about me. I want them to understand that they're my parents and that I'm their kid; I need them.

In the West, some people believe that personality can be predicted according to the time of the year the person was born. From China comes the belief that the year of birth influences one's personality. In the past century, a new belief has appeared: the idea that personality has something to do with one's ABO blood type. People with blood type A, for example, are considered more likely(可能的)to be serious, hard-working, and quiet, while people with blood type O are likely to be popular and outgoing, yet often unable to finish what they start. Though this belief continues to be strong, some people question if it is true.
The blood-type personality theory(理论)started in Japan in 1927 when Furukawa Takehi noticed personality similarities and differences among his workers. This idea soon went out of fashion, but was brought back by a Japanese television host named Toshitaka Nomi in the 1970s. The belief is still strong in Japan and is increasingly popular in neighboring countries. Some young. Koreans have taken to the theory. A recent study showed 76 percent of Koreans aged betweenl3 and 64 believing in the blood-type personality connection. Though most Asians might believe in the blood-type theory, for many it seems harmless and not something to be taken too seriously.
Is the belief true? The scientists in Asia mainly think the belief as a modern-day superstition(迷信).Most studies have failed to find any strong connection between blood and personality. Generally, scientists warn against making predictions or important decisions based on this questionable theory.
51. The writer uses blood type A and O as an example to explain .
A. the difference between the two blood types
B. the similarity between the two blood types
C. the influence of blood type on one's behavior
D. the connection between personality and blood type
52. What does the underlined sentence in Paragraph 2 mean?
A. The theory was lightly believed by some young Koreans.
B. The theory was introduced to some young Koreans.
C. Some young Koreans liked and accepted the theory.
D. Some young Koreans stole the theory from others.
53. What is the best title for the passage?
A. Is it in your blood? B. Is it in your mind?
C. Is the blood-type theory popular? D. Is the personality changeable?
D
A small weak pig
"Where's Papa going with the ax(斧头)? " said Fern to her mother as they were setting the table for breakfast.
"Out to the hoghouse(猪圈)," replied Mrs Arable. "Some pigs were born last night."
"I don't see why he needs an ax," continued Fern, who was only eight.
"Well," said her mother, "one of the pigs is very small and weak, and it will never grow up to anything. So your father has decided to do away with it."
"Do away with it?" cried Fern. "Just because it's smaller than the others?"
Mrs Arable put a bottle of cream on the table. "Don't cry, Fern!" she said. "The pig would probably die anyway."
Fern pushed a chair out of the way and ran outdoors. The grass was wet and the earth smelled of springtime. Fern's sneakers got wet by the time she caught up with her father.
"Please don't do it!" she said with eyes full of tears.
"It's not right." Mr Arable stopped walking. "Fern," he said gently. "you will have to learn to control(控制)yourself."
"Control myself?" cried Fern. "This is a matter of life and death, and you talk about controlling myself." Tears ran down her face and she took hold of the ax and tried to pull it out of her father's hand.
"Fern," said Mr Arable, "I know more about raising pigs than you do. A weak pig makes trouble. Now run along!"
"But it's unfair," cried Fern. "The pig couldn't help being born small, could it? If I had been very small at birth, would you have killed me?"
Mr Arable smiled. "Certainly not," he said, looking down at his daughter with love. "But this is different. A little girl is one thing; a little pig is another."
"I see no difference," replied Fern, still hanging on to the ax. "This is the most terrible thing I have ever heard of."
A strange look came over John Arable's face. He seemed almost ready to cry himself.

Amy was looking for a gift for her little daughter. Suddenly she stopped before a store of dolls. "Girls like dolls," she thought as she stepped into it. Looking around, she saw a grandma doll一one with gray hair and a pair of glasses. In her mind appeared Joyce, her mother.
When Amy was a little girl, she got her first doll from Joyce for her birthday. Then the second, the third... A doll a year from Joyce never arrived late.
"Why always a doll?" This question had been in Amy's mind until one day her father gave the answer.
Little Joyce dreamed to have a doll. Her parents promised one for her fifth birthday. Sadly, they both died in a traffic accident before it arrived. The never-received gift was the most precious(珍贵的) in her eyes.
Her mother's story being recalled, Amy got an idea.
It was Joyce's 60th birthday. A package was sent to her with a card that read:
Dear Joyce,
I forget to send you the package that you should have received on May 20, 1956, your fifth Birthday. The gift inside has aged, but I felt that you might still wish to have it.
Love, Angel of Joy
Joyce opened the package and saw a lovely grandma doll. She held the doll that she had waited so many years for, with tears running down her face. The doll, given by "Angel of Joy", made her the happiest "child" in the world.
73. Who was Joyce?

Dear Jack.
How are you doing? I'm writing to tell you about my problems.
I have been crazy about reading love stories these days. I have read more than 20 of that kind.
I can't stop it! I can't put my heart into my study. I often get "C" in the exams, and sometimes "D". I have no goals(目标)and lose confidence from time to time. The final exam is coming. Could you give me some advice on the following questions?
·Do you think it is good for teenagers to read love stories?
·Do you think if I can catch up with others?
·What can I do to improve my study?
·If I fail in the final exam, what should I do?
Looking forward to your reply.
Yours,
Lucy
